Dotd (dick of the day) is an art project by a 30-something year old trans guy relearning his love of drawing and trying to come to terms with his body. It’s about seeing and being seen. It’s about being your own mirror and trying to discern the gaze of other people from your own, realizing how impossible that is, and nonetheless trying to find your way through to the other side.
Dotd posts the kind of dicks you might see on trans men and transmasc people who are on testosterone therapy, dicks also referred to as bottom growth or t-dicks (« t » is short for « testosterone »). By my use of the word « dick », I’m not telling anyone else how they should refer to their body. This blog is my artistic venture, and therefore, I will be using my own language. Here, in this space, the word « dick » is not a suggestion or a preference. It is my ontological reality. As an aside, you might see other kinds of dicks, too. I love them all.
Dotd is not intended to be voyeuristic, nor is it intended to be a field guide for cis people discovering trans bodies. However, I cannot control other people’s reactions to my work. Desire is encouraged; questions are encouraged. Desire – or frustrated desire – is, after all, part of what started this project. I love dicks like mine on other people, and I love the changes my body has undergone, but it’s sometimes very difficult to love my body.
